A visit to Fifax fish farm

At the beginning of June 2022, RAScue project coordinator Szilvia Haide and energy specialist Edvard Nordlund, Flexens Oy Ab, visited the Fifax fish farm on Åland.

Fifax has been an advisory participant in the RAScue project discussions since 2021. Their sustainability-oriented fish farm is situated in Eckerö on the west coast of Åland - about a 30-minute drive from Mariehamn.

Haide and Nordlund were given a tour of the facilities by Kimmo Jalo, CTO at Fifax Ab.

“It is a highly complex and sensitive process,” says Haide. “I found it interesting to see the equipment in person.”

At the fish farm, the electricity is primarily consumed for cooling and pumping water. After the visit, the RAScue team modelled the fish farm energy consumption and investigated integration scenarios with renewable energy technologies. Now, the team is focused on its replicability study.
